Nokia Mobile to launch a new smartphone in China on 4th August

Nokia Mobile is planning to return to the Chinese smartphone market and thanks to the Chinese certification agency TENNA, we already saw the images and specifications of the upcoming Nokia TA-1258. Nokia Mobile has now announced the launch event scheduled for 4th August in China with an interesting teaser image of the phone that is to be announced.

The teaser image shows a part of the smartphone where we can see the screen, bezel, frame and the most interesting feature which is a button on the left side. The post (translated) says "Say goodbye to tedious operations, smart life is directly accessible with one key!" which is a hint at a remappable button. The teaser also focusses on the button and you can clearly see the design of button on top of the vertical text as well. 

This is interesting because, on the Nokia smartphones sold globally, the button on the left side is a Google Assistant key which activates the voice assistant. However, in China, Google Assistant is not available and the presence of this button suggests it could be remappable to launch some app, take a screenshot, turn on the flashlight, etc. There could also be different ways to activate different features. For example, Single press would take a screenshot, long-press would launch a specific app and double pressing the button would make a phone call to the set contact. The button in the image also looks to be glowing which could mean a notification led integrated into the button.

A few days ago, Nokia Mobile China had also shared a post on Weibo asking users for suggestions on what other functions would they prefer to be performed by the button on the left side of the phone. The post also had an outline of the frame and the button. Below is the screenshot.

Nokia TA-1258 is a budget smartphone and will be the first Nokia smartphone being launched in China after a year-long pause. You can take a quick look at the known specifications of TA-1258 below:

We also have to see if Nokia Mobile makes some other announcement at the launch event especially regarding the OS updates for previous Nokia smartphones which have stopped receiving them. The launch event will be held on 4th August at 10AM Beijing Time.
